The Perfect Folding Method
Roundup of all my folding videos
Folding clothes is one of those daily and weekly chores that everyone has some thoughts on. Clients love it, hate it, and have all the feelings in between. While I personally enjoy the look of folded clothes, I understand the act of folding to be, well a chore.
I’m rounding up all my best folding videos to help inspire, motivate and encourage you to level up your folding game. The process of folding may not be enjoyable…yet, but watching these videos may at least entertain and educate.
If you’re wondering why we should bother to fold at all, here are the main reasons that I fold in my household.
- Space savings – Folding clothes is the best way to save space in a small closet or drawer. Most people don’t have an infinite amount of space so when we fold our clothes, we remove the air within to take up less physical space.
- Accessibility and visibility – Accessibility and visibility is key to using our items. If we can see it and reach it, it’s more likely to be useful to our lives. This is another reason why folding our clothing is beneficial because we fold the clothes in a way that allows it to be visible and accessible.
- Looks uniform and tidy – Having our clothes folded creates a uniform and cohesive look that mirrors what you might see in a retail shop. The experience of seeing the clothes neatly arranged is both beautiful and tidy.
- Reduce wrinkles – Having wrinkles in my clothes isn’t tidy. When we fold our clothes, wrinkles are generally minimized.
In these videos I share the how-to’s to achieve a uniform and cohesive look in your closet and dresser drawers. It is the exact steps I use to create a tidy home.
Folding with Kids
Tidying with kids is a topic near and dear to my heart. As parents, when we teach our kids to tidy, we teach them responsibility and ownership for their things.
My kids know that as a member of my family, they also can contribute to running the household. They do this by doing age-appropriate chores, including tidying their room and folding their clothes.
My kids don’t march in a single file line eager to tidy their rooms, but with some encouragement, these young kids of mine help mom and dad in little ways that do make an impact. I say, “spread the load,” the laundry load, that is.
Check out these two videos of my kids in action. Share with your kiddos and to motivate them to try folding this way.
Folding a Fitted Sheet with a Pocket Fold
Folding a fitted sheet can be extra frustrating. It’s no wonder that so many us will give up and will wad up the sheet in a gigantic ball and shove it in the linen closet. Sound familiar? No judgement here, I promise. But if you were interested in learning this life skill, then watch these videos where I break down the process. I fold with a pocket fold so that you can tuck your pillow cases into the fitted sheet to create a nice and tidy bundle. Click on the photos below to view the two videos.
Folding Reusable Grocery Bags
Many of us don’t think much about folding our reusable grocery bags, but I promise that taking the time to fold them will be a game changer for you in keeping the truck of your car tidy. It takes just a few minutes to fold the bags to achieve a nice fold that can be stored away in a box or bin that you can keep in the car trunk or your kitchen cabinet or pantry.
This video show how to fold three different sized bags.
Folding Clothes
I’ve learned to fold my clothes a bunch of different ways. The main key points to remember when folding clothes is to fold them upright and into a rectangle or square. We fold upright, or file-folded, so that we can see all our clothes at a glance. We also fold in this manner to minimize the number of wrinkles in the clothing. Recently I started to fold using a pocket fold and I especially like this method when it come to folding kid’s clothing.
These videos below illustrate exactly how I fold using these methods.
Folding Underwear
Underwear can be tidy too. I found that folding underwear is another subcategory where clients will shove them in a drawer in their dresser. If you like the look of a retail shop, folding underwear is a great way to get the “wow” factor each and every time to you reach for them. It’s in these little joys that we really can enjoy or space and homes. Click on the photo below for a link to the video.
If you’re having trouble folding something that hasn’t been shown in the videos above, write me a note or comment below so that I can create a video for you. It’s likely that if you have a question on it, someone else also has the same question.
Tidy on and tidy strong, my friend.
