Reduce single use plastic waste with this hack

I posted a video on my DIY recipe for homemade foaming soap and got a huge response with lots of comments and direct messages on the products I used.  Check out the video here.

First off, I’ve been using this recipe for nearly a decade and this is my way of reducing the amount of plastic waste that I consume in my family. While it is not a perfect solution that is 100% plastic free, it does reduce single use plastic use in my family.

The crazy thing is just how simple this recipe is.  Whatever the size of the container, fill with Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap ¼ of the way and then for the remaining ¾ of the way add your water from the facet.  There is no difference between using hot or cold water to mix the solution.  Also give the jar a little swirl of the wrist to mix to perfection.

You can change the ratio as you please, but this formula works like a charm for us.  You get the most velvety and cotton like puff of soap and it’s so satisfying and enjoyable to use.  For an extra bonus, add essential oils to the mix if you want to create your own unique scent.

Products Used

I always use Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap which is a concentrated vegan soap. My personal preference is the Lavender scented one because it smells so good.  It is linked here.

Over the years I have used a different number of foaming dispensers to hold the soap.  I am linking two options below. One is plastic while the other is glass.  I chose reusable plastic for any years because when my kids were younger this is what I was most comfortable with.  Recently we have upgraded to glass with a steel mason jar lid.  It’s a mason jar with a regular mouth which I love and it can be repurposed for other things.

If you already have regular mouth mason jars I also suggest purchasing the foaming dispenser only.  You can find the link below.
