DIY Magnetic Spice Labels

DIY Magnetic Spice Labels

The hunt continues for the best spice labels that work for my kitchen.

My spice drawer is in desperate need of a refresh.

The labels I had created previously are starting to curl at the edges.  I’m trying something new with these DIY magnetic spice labels.

They’re super cute and customizable.

Let’s get started.

Gather All Supplies

First off gather all your supplies.

This is a very simple project with just a few items.

You’ll need:

  • Adhesive Magnet Sheet – I picked up this adhesive magnet roll at the craft store, which cost about $15, but it can be purchased online at a deeper discount.
  • Die cutting punches – On hand I already had a few different circle craft punches to try out for the magnet labels.

Select a paper punch that will fit the tops of your spice jars.  This is the one I use in my kitchen.

Make DIY Magnetic Spice Labels

Start off by cutting the magnetic sheets.

This is optional, but I’m using my crafting paper cutter.

I find this to be the easiest and fastest way to create exact magnetic strips to the size I need.  Once the stripes have been cut to the width of the circle punch, punch the sheet as many times as you can, making the least amount of waste.

I was able to comfortably get about 7 circle punches per magnetic strip.

I’m using a label template I already created and I simply printed it on regular printer paper.  Then using the same sized circle punches I cut out the labels to the right size.

This part is particularly satisfying especially when I was able to get the circle to line up perfectly.

It’s all about the little joys in life!

Now on to the fun part.

Carefully remove the adhesive backing on the magnets and then add the pre-cut circle labels.  These ball spice jars have metal lids so the magnetic labels perfectly adhere to them.

You can see how well these labels stay on even though they aren’t too thick. You can put the label on either side. Not sure why you’re do that, but it’s an option.

Now that you’ve got your system down, it will take some time to make all the punches for both the labels and the magnets.  This is the perfect time to put on your favorite podcast or Netflix show and enjoy some quality crafting time.

After a while I had trouble getting the adhesive off the magnets so I started to use a weeding tool from Cricut that worked really well.

End Results

After pairing up all the magnets to the labels I transferred them to the existing jars and they look so good.

I love how these turned out.

You can easily move them around with a little push.

Otherwise, the magnet sticks very well despite how thin the magnets are.
